Description

Artist/Producer, Ableton Certified Trainer and Berklee College of Music Electronic Production and Design professor Dan Freeman will be teaching an 5 session, 30 hour intensive course on Music Production with Ableton Live 12 from August 19 – 23, 2024. The course will meet daily that week from 12 – 6 at Park Slope’s ShapeShifter Lab (837 Union St.) and is for up to 15 students ages 15 and up who would like to learn the basics of electronic music production using Ableton Live or expand their knowledge of the program. . It is based on the courses that Dan designed for NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music and The Juilliard School.

The course is designed for students who want to understand the workflow of producing music on a laptop. At the end of the week, all students will have produced a basic track with Live and have learned how this powerful laptop studio can be used to create and produce music.

Students will be required to bring their own laptops.  We will be using a free trial version of Ableton Live Suite and students will be able to purchase Ableton Live at approximately 40 percent off with a student discount.

An Introduction To Ableton Live 12’s Interface and Production Flow 

Beat Building with Ableton Live 12

Warping Audio in Live 12 and creating remixes and re-edits 

The basics of electronic synthesis using Ableton’s Instruments 

Editing and Arranging in Ableton Live 12 

The basic principles of mixing and finishing a track

Dan Freeman is an artist, producer, music technologist based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn who has been an Ableton Certified Trainer for twelve years.  He has toured extensively as an artist and presenter throughout Europe and Latin America including at Sonar (Barcelona), SXSW (Austin), Berghain (Berlin) and Harvard University (Cambridge, MA).  He is a Professor in Berklee College of Music’s Electronic Production and Design department as well as on the faculty of the Juilliard School and New York University’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.  In 2015 he founded the Brooklyn Digital Conservatory primarily to bring electronic music producers from NYC to Latin America and since its founding, it has run courses in NYC, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Colombia, Chile, Panama, Italy, Guatemala and Mexico.
